Gymnastics Earns NCAA Regional Bid
Raleigh, N.C. - The NC State gymnastics team has once again qualified for the NCAA Regional Championships, the 17th time in the last 18 years. The NCAA Gymnastics Committee announced the fields for each of the six 2010 NCAA Region Championships sites on Monday. The Wolfpack will head to Morgantown, W. Va., to compete in the NCAA Southeast Regional Championships on Saturday, April 10. The meet will be hosted by West Virginia University in the WVU Coliseum at 6:00 p.m.
Six teams, five all-around competitors (who are not on a qualifying team) and one individual event specialist per event were named to each of the six regions - West, North Central, South Central, Central, Northeast and Southeast. The top-18 teams were seeded on a national basis, based on RQS. Teams 19-36 were assigned to a regional site based on geographic proximity. All-around competitors and event specialists were assigned within their respective regions.
The top two teams and the top two all-around competitors (who are not on an advancing team) from each regional will receive an automatic berth to the national championships in Gainesville, Fla, April 22-24, hosted by the University of Florida. In addition, the event winners at the regional championships will advance to the national championships (in that event only) if they are not part of a qualifying team or the all-around qualifiers.
No. 6 Stanford, No. 6 Michigan and No. 18 Southern Utah are the seeded teams at the NCAA Southeast Regional. No. 28 NC State, No. 29 Kent State, and No. 31 West Virginia round out the field for the Morgantown site.
After having a bye on the first rotations, NC State will start the meet on bars then move over to floor. After a second bye, the Pack will finish the meet on floor then vault.
