Hancock 16th at NCAA's in Beam
NC State senior gymnast Leigha Hancock finished 16th in the balance beam at the NCAA Championships in Athens, Ga., on Thursday, Apr. 24. She scored a 9.775 on the beam to post her finish, missing All-American honors by 0.050 points. She tied for fifth in the afternoon session, with the top-four competitors advancing to the NCAA Finals on Saturday.
Hancock was the co-beam champion at the NCAA Regionals at Florida, as she won her second regional event title of her career, making her the only gymnast in school history to ever accomplish that feat. She advanced to the national championships by virtue of winning the beam at Florida.
Hancock finished her career ranked second all-time in career scores of 9.9 with 21, two off of the school record. She was named NCAA Southeast Region Gymnast of the Year in 2008, the first athlete in school history to be honored.
