RALEIGH, N.C.-- With a sport like gymnastics there is never really an offseason because there is always something in a routine that can be improved or perfected. Senior Morgan Johnson has been in the gym this summer working on different aspects of her routine for her last season with the Wolfpack.

Johnson was a mainstay in the lineup for the Pack last season, competing on vault in every meet with the exception of Oklahoma. The senior posted a 9.8 on vault at the Sweetheart Invitational and finished third in the event against William & Mary.

The senior gymnast is embracing her new role as a leader, being one of only two seniors on the squad for next season. Johnson sees the role as one that will be challenging at times because of the potential to be a fairly young team, but not overbearing.  

Q: What have you been doing this summer in preparation for next season?
A: This summer we've been doing some lifting with our strength and conditioning Coach Wright, its optional but we all take it upon ourselves to go. We call the coaches when we need them and they are always available to come in there with us and help us.

Q: What do you want to improve on before next season?
A: I've been upgrading my fault, so i've been working on that and then just consistency. I'm also working to improve my routine on bars and tweaking some things to make my routine better.

Q: What does it mean to be one of only two seniors on the team?
A: It's a little bit of pressure since there will probably be more freshmen on the team than seniors so it may be a little difficult. The biggest thing to remember is that being a senior doesn't mean you have to be a dictator or anything it just means that you need to help guide the underclassmen and show them the ropes.

Q: What are your individual goals for next season?
A: Individually, I really want to just contribute and be a valuable member of the team. I want to be able to support the team and help everybody inside of athletics and outside as well.

Q: What are your goals for the team next season?
A: As a team, we want to do well and hopefully win EAGL, make the NCAA Regionals again and then advance to the National Championships.

Q: Outside of gymnastics, how have you spent your summer?
A: I'm traveling, taking some classes online and i'm also working at a gym coaching gymnastics.
