Indianapolis, Ind. – Junior Hannah Fallanca and sophomore Megan Kurdelmeier have been selected as 2011-12 Scholastic All-America award recipients, according to an announcement by the NACGC/W.

The National Association of Collegiate Gymnastics Coaches/Women (NAGC/W) honors student-athletes that maintain a year-long or cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.5 or higher.

Student-athletes from NCAA divisions I, II, and III received the honor for a combined total of 471 athletes selected.

Fallanca, majoring in parks, recreation and tourism management, achieved a GPA of 3.79 for the year to claim the honor.

“I feel so honored because I’ve been working so hard to make sure I get a high GPA,” said Fallanca on receiving the award. “It was very difficult to maintain and it became even tougher during the season, but working hard during my off hours allowed me to be successful academically.”

In her freshman year at NC State, Kurdelmeier recorded a GPA of 3.89 while enrolled in the first year college program.

“It feels great to know that I was able to have success in the classroom, while putting so many hours in the gym as well,” Kurdelmeier said. “I’m kind of used to balancing gymnastics and school from my high school and club years, so I’ve learned to use any extra time I have to study and get work done.”

Becca Teich and Jackie Yanchocik, two graduates from last year’s squad, were also selected for the award.
