RALEIGH, N.C. – Head coach Mark Stevenson of the NC State gymnastics team announced the squad’s 2014 schedule on Monday, with the Wolfpack slated to compete against four teams that finished the 2013 campaign in the top-25 of the troester.com rankings.

“I’m excited about the way the schedule sets up this season,” Stevenson said. “Seeing UNC and West Virginia early, ending the season with LSU and a strong conference championship competition sets us up very well for a run at the National Championships.”

The Pack will begin the season on the road, Jan. 12, against rival UNC, before opening its home slate Jan. 17 against 2013 Big 10 co-champion Michigan, who finished seventh last season in the final troester.com polls.

State will travel to Kent St., along with the Wolfpack wrestling team, to compete in a Beauty & the Beast event on Jan. 19 against the Golden Flashes. The event features the gymnastics and wrestling teams competing simultaneously inside the arena.

The annual Sweetheart Invitational will be held Feb. 15 in Reynolds Coliseum, with George Washington, UNC and William & Mary traveling to Raleigh to compete along with the Pack.

The Wolfpack will face perhaps its toughest challenge of the season when the squad travels to Baton Rouge, La., for a March 7 meet against Southeastern Conference (SEC) member LSU, who advanced to the NCAA Championships last season and finished third overall.

In the East Atlantic Gymnastics League (EAGL), State travels to UNC (Jan. 12) and Pittsburgh (Feb. 21), while hosting the Tar Heels and George Washington in the Sweetheart Invitational (Feb. 15) a tri-meet against Pittsburgh and Maryland (Feb. 28). The squad’s six seniors will be honored prior to the Wolfpack’s final regular season meet against New Hampshire (March 16).

NC State will look to defend its title at the 2014 EAGL Conference Championship hosted by New Hampshire on Saturday, March 22.
