RALEIGH, N.C. – NC State gymnastics will add three student-athletes in the fall of 2014, as announced by head coach Mark Stevenson. Elizabeth Gangale, Chelsea Knight-Taliaferro and Allie Wismer each signed National Letters of Intent (NLI) to join the program next academic year.

“I'm excited that we have such a strong class coming in,” said Stevenson. “All three qualified for JO Nationals, which is the highest round of that tournament and they were very successful at that level finishing in the top-10 in all-around. We're very excited to have them. We think they’ll bring a lot to our program.”

Gangale joins the Wolfpack from Henderson, Nev., and Brown’s Gymnastics. A 2011 JO National All Around Champion, Gangale finished first on vault, in the top-five on bars and in the top-10 on beam. She also captured the state championship on vault in 2011 and 2012, while placing first on floor in 2012.

“Elizabeth finished first three years ago and third two years in the all-around,” Stevenson said.

Knight-Taliaferro comes to Raleigh from Waldorf, Md., where she trains at Unique Gymnastics. She placed in the top-10 in 2012 at JO Nationals in the all-around competition. She won the title on beam at the 2013 Circle of the Stars meet, while claiming the top spot on bars at the Maryland Classic. In addition, the Maryland native finished first on vault and bars at the March Madness Invitational.

“Chelsea is a very dynamic athlete and extremely good on vault,” Stevenson added. “She is also pretty good on bars and floor.”

Wismer, a product of Pinnacle Gymnastics in Overland Park, Kansas, recorded a top-10 finish earlier this year at Regionals, while winning the state title on vault and bars. In addition, Wismer placed second in the all-around competition in 2012 and 2013. She also finished 11th in the all-around at JO Nationals in 2012.

“Allie is pretty much a newcomer. She was competing at Nationals last year for the first time, but she made it through and she did very well there,” Stevenson stated.

The Wolfpack will open the season at North Carolina on Jan. 12, 2014, with competition slated to begin at 2 p.m. inside Carmichael Arena.
