Wolfpack Wins Second-Straight With 5-0 Victory Over Temple
Aug. 30, 2003
CHARLESTON, S.C. - NC State women's soccer improved its record to 2-0 with a 5-0 win over Temple (0-1) on Saturday, Aug. 30. The Pack will bring home a perfect record after winning both games of the Quality Inn and Suites Classic hosted by the College of Charleston. The 2-0 NC State record is the best start since 1999, which also resulted in a 2-0 slate.
The Wolfpack struck first with a goal from senior forward Adrienne Barnes at the four-minute mark after senior defender Tara Knauss sent through an assist from the midline. Senior forward Lindsey Underwood earned her third goal of the season when she played a ricocheted shot from sophomore forward Erin Ardler in the box at the 20:45 mark. Freshman midfielder Mandela Schumacher-Hodge earned the third goal after Underwood crossed a low ball from the right flank into the box four minutes later.
NC State kept the ball rolling with its fourth goal of the match as Ardler took a pass from Barnes on the right flank and sent the ball in diagonally from 10 yards out. The second goal of the half came after junior Erin Griswold took a shot from the right side again, but this time the ball bounced off the foot of a Temple defender in the box.
The Wolfpack tallied 23 shots, 17 of which were on goal. NC State held Temple to just one shot on goal, which resulted in a save by sophomore keeper Lauren Georges. Sophomore Kim Selz started the game for NC State before Georges entered at half time.
NC State heads home to host its own tournament next weekend, Sept. 5-7 at SAS Soccer Stadium. The Pack will take on Tulane at 7:30 p.m. on Friday and then Villanova at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday.
