RALEIGH, N.C. - Jennie Krauser scored two second-half goals to lead the NC State women's soccer team to a 3-1 victory over Appalachian State on Friday night at Dail Soccer Field. The Wolfpack has now won five-straight games, its longest streak since 2008.
Krauser, who also scored last Sunday in the 3-0 win over Elon, broke a 1-all tie in the 73rd minute when she took a header flick pass from Caroline Gentry and she was able to shuffle around the charging Appalachian State goalie and she fed a shot into a wide-open goal for a 2-1 lead.
She added a second in the 89th minute when she chipped the ball over her defender and then lobbed a shot from 15-yards out over the goalkeeper for her second of the net.
Rachel Harris opened the scoring in the 34th minute to give the Wolfpack a 1-0 advantage. Freshman Michelle Oestreich struck a ball off the cross bar and Harris headed in her second of the season from point-blank range.
The lead was short lived, however, as Kate Ward scored the equalizer in the 37th minute to send the game into halftime knotted 1-all.
NC State (5-2) allowed the Mountaineers just one shot in the second half, and finished with a 19-8 advantage in the match.
Victoria Hopkins made four saves in goal for the Wolfpack, while Megan Roberson was busy all night making 11 saves for Appalachian State (2-4).
NC State heads back on the road to take on Kansas this Sunday at 1 p.m., in Lawrence, Kan., and then opens ACC play next Thursday at Virginia in Charlottesville at 7 p.m. That match will be televised on FOX Soccer as the NSCAA Game of the Week.
