Soccer Charity Camp Raises $4,500 for Former Assistant Coach
May 5, 2014
RALEIGH – The NC State women’s soccer team put its spare time to good use on April 26, hosting a charity camp at the Wolfpack Training Center.
The camp, named “Wolfpack Backs Pinkerton,” was organized to help former NC State assistant coach Ben Pinkerton (with the Wolfpack from 2005-08) raise money for medical treatments. Pinkerton was diagnosed with Stage IV colon cancer on Jan. 29.
A camp for children 13 years of age or younger, the event was free with donations encouraged. The campers and community showed great support for the cause, coming together to raise $4,500 for Pinkerton.
“Time and again, I’m impressed by the generosity of the soccer community,” said NC State head coach Tim Santoro. “Thank you to everyone who came out and supported this cause.”
NC State opens the 2014 season with a home exhibition against Appalachian State on Aug. 13. The Wolfpack will then host UNC-Wilmington on Aug. 22 for its first official match of the season.
