Lacey Joins Wolfpack Ahead of 2014 Season

    May 12, 2014

RALEIGH - Continuing to supplement the program's latest strong recruiting class, head coach Tim Santoro of the NC State women's soccer team recently announced the addition of Karina Lacey to the program in advance of the 2014 season.

Like the rest of the incoming class announced in February, Lacey will be immediately eligible to compete for the Wolfpack.

Karina Lacey | MF/D | VSA Heat | Haymarket, Va. | Battlefield High School
Has played club soccer for VSA Heat 96 Blue since 2009 ... Club team was Virginia State Cup Champions (2010, 2012), a Region 1 finalist (2012), and a State Cup finalist (2011) ... Club team played in the Region 1 Premier League during the 2011 and 2012 seasons and also participated in the USYS National League from 2011-12 ... Her high school team posted a 23-1-1 record during the 2012-13 season ... While playing for Battlefield High School, her teams were district champions (2011), regional champions (2011 and 2012), and state semi-finalists (2011) ... Also participated in indoor track and field (2010 and 2011) and AAU basketball (2005-08) ... Has achieved an impressive 3.7 grade-point average in high school.

Coach Santoro's take: "Like a lot of her class, Karina can play in various spots. She's very comfortable both in the midfield and in back, likes to have the ball at her feet, and plays the game in a simple manner. Karina will thrive in this environment and is someone who I expect will develop into a solid contributor."

NC State opens the 2014 season with a home exhibition against Appalachian State on Aug. 13. The Wolfpack will then host UNC-Wilmington on Aug. 22 for its first official match of the season.
