RALEIGH, N.C. - NC State and William & Mary played to a 1-1 draw in an exhibition women's soccer match Saturday evening at Dail Soccer Field.
The Wolfpack took the lead in the late stages of the first of three 30 minute periods that were played.
Sophomore Jessica Baity was taken down in the box by a William & Mary defender that gave NC State a penalty kick opportunity. Junior midfielder Ariela Schreibeis stepped up and buried her shot in the net for a 1-0 lead in the 29th minute.
Junior captain Meagan Proper nearly made it a 2-0 advantage when her shot rang off the post in the final minutes of the second period. She rifled a 25-yard shot that hit high off the left post and caromed across the goal mouth.
Despite outshooting the Wolfpack 13-5 for the match, the Tribe was unable to get one into the net until the 87th minute when Cortlyn Bristol put home her shot from point-blank range to tie the game at 1-all.
NC State keeper Victoria Hopkins played all 90 minutes and made four saves.
The Pack will open its regular season next Friday at Old Dominion in Norfolk, Va., at 7 p.m. The home opener will be two day later on Sunday against Cincinnati at 1 p.m.
