The 2012 season for the NC State women's soccer team has arrived and will kick off Friday night at Old Dominion in Norfolk, Va., at ODU Soccer Stadium at 7 p.m.
The Wolfpack also begins its fourth season under the guidance of head coach Steve Springthorpe. He engineered the 2011 club to a 10-8-2 record, the best campaign for the program in nearly a decade.
State opens on the road for the first time since 2005, and also plays ODU for the sixth-straight season. The Pack has won all three meetings since Springthorpe arrived in Raleigh, and those wins have come over his college coach, Joe Pereira at Methodist College.
Springthorpe also spent eight seasons as an assistant coach for Pereira, before he left to take over the ODU program in 1995.
NC State is 5-1-1 all-time in seven previous meetings with the Monarchs.
The Wolfpack earned a 1-1 draw with William & Mary last Saturday in an exhibition match at Dail Soccer Field. Ariela Schreibeis scored on a penalty kick that gave the home team a 1-0 lead, before the Tribe scored the equalizer in the final minutes of the match.
ODU fell 1-0 to Maryland in its only tune up before Friday's regualr-season opener.
NC State will return home to host Cincinnati on Sunday at 1 p.m.
