A WIN ON FRIDAY WOULD...
-Be the 320th win in program history
-Mark NC State's second 1-0 start to a season under Tim Santoro
-Improve Santoro's non-conference record to 6-1
-Be NC State's fifth win over UNC-Wilmington (fifth meeting)
Friday's match will mark the fifth all-time meeting between NC State and UNC-Wilmington. The Wolfpack holds a 4-0 edge in the series and last played the Seahawks during the 2013 season, winning 2-1 in Raleigh on Sept. 8. Current junior Brittany Stanko scored a brace in the match, finding the back of the net in the 12th and 80th minutes.
SCOUTING THE SEAHAWKS
-UNC-Wilmington enters Friday's match after two hard-fought exhibition contests, losing to ranked foes UNC-Chapel Hill and Duke by matching scorelines of 1-0.
-The Seahawks posted a 9-10-1 record during the 2013 season, a mark which included a 4-5 record in Colonial Athletic Association play.
-UNCW outscored its opponents last season, 29-27.
-Current junior Katrina Guillou (#6) led the team with 10 goals last season.
A SEASON OF IMPROVEMENT
In just his first season as head coach of the NC State women's soccer program, Tim Santoro led the Wolfpack to significant improvements in 2013.
State picked up two more wins in 2013 than it did in 2012, earned its first win over a ranked foe since 2009, and improved its end of season RPI mark by 85 places (45 percent) from 188 to 103. The Wolfpack's season ended with a 2-1 victory over No. 23 Wake Forest. Shortly after this victory, freshman Jackie Stengel earned postseason Atlantic Coast Conference honors (third team and freshman team).
FUTURE IS BRIGHT
Santoro's first recruiting class at NC State (class of 2014) received notable attention ahead of the 2014 season. BigSoccer and All White Kit ranked State's current freshman class quite highly, tabbing it as 13th and 19th in the country, respectively.
