Match #2: NC State (1-0) vs. Longwood (0-0)
RALEIGH, N.C. – After a comeback victory over Navy on Friday evening, the NC State women’s soccer team will host Longwood in its home opener Sunday, Aug. 25 at 7 p.m., at Dail Soccer Stadium.
Sunday’s matchup with the Lancers will be the first of six-straight home games for the Wolfpack, following its 3-2 comeback win at Navy Friday evening. The Pack trailed 1-0 at halftime, before it scratched and clawed its way back with three goals in the first 19 minutes of the second half to put itself ahead for the remainder of the contest.
Sophomore striker Caroline Gentry recorded the first goal on a header from a free kick at midfield by Shelli Spamer. Playing in her first collegiate game, freshman Jackie Stengel followed up three minutes later with her first goal, before NC State had a cross redirected into Navy’s goal by a Midshipmen defender to give the Wolfpack a 3-1 lead.
Sunday’s match between NC State and Longwood will be the second in the all-time series. The Pack defeated the Lancers, 4-1, in its inaugural meeting back during the 2011 season.
NC State will remain at home and host Georgia Southern on Friday, August 30 at 7 p.m., before welcoming East Tennessee State for a 1 p.m. tilt Sunday, September 1. Both matches will be held at the Dail Soccer Stadium.
