Pack Welcomes UNC Wilmington on Sunday
RALEIGH, N.C. -- NC State women's soccer (1-0) will host UNC Wilmington (1-0) on Sunday, Aug. 27, at 4 p.m. The match follows the NC State men's game against Hartford at 1 p.m. Both matches will be played at the Method Road Soccer Stadium. The Wolfpack will look to build on its win over Western Carolina on Friday, 2-0. NC State uses two goals in the second half to open the 2006 campaign with a victory. Sophomore Lindsay Vera, the Pack's leading scorer in 2005, posted the insurance goal in the win, while freshman Briana Cunningham took home the game winner in the 70th minute. It's been six years since NC State and UNC Wilmington have met.
NC State won the last meeting with UNCW, 3-0, back in 2000 in Raleigh. The Wolfpack leads the all-time series 2-0.
UNC Wilmington is fresh off a 1-0 win at Appalachian State on Friday. Jessica Stalling posted the winning goal in the 70th minute for the Seahawks. The 2006 UNCW team features seven returning starters off last year's 8-10-1 club. The starters include junior midfielder Jenny Cauble, who became the first Seahawk to earn First Team All-Colonial Athletic Association honors last year, and sophomore Kelly Renkin, a CAA All-Rookie selection. In addition, the Seahawks also return senior Nicole Smith, and sophomore Katie MacDonald, defenders who both started all 19 matches a year ago.
