RALEIGH, N.C. – After taking down Texas and LSU last weekend, the NC State women’s soccer team returns home this weekend for a three-game homestand, which opens with a clash against The Citadel on Friday night at Dail Soccer Field. Opening kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
The Pack downed the Longhorns 1-0 on their home turf last Friday evening on sophomore Jessica Balty’s first career goal in the 84th minute, while redshirt-sophomore goalkeeper Victoria Hopkins notched her first career shutout to preserve the victory.
NC State concluded the weekend with a 2-1 comeback victory at LSU on Sunday, marking the first time the Wolfpack won consecutive non-conference road games since the 2000 season. Sophomore Cheyenne Spade and freshman Shannon Colligan scored the goals for NC State to move the team’s record to 2-2 on the season.
Baity’s game-winner against Texas earned her College Sports Madness Women's Soccer’s ACC Player of the Week honors, while Shelli Spamer was one of nine players across the nation named to the CollegeSoccer360.com Primetime Performers Weekly Honor Roll after assisting on both Wolfpack goals in the team’s 2-1 triumph over LSU.
The Citadel comes into Friday’s game after dropping a pair of road matches to Maine and Bryant last weekend, both by a 5-1 score.
Following Friday night’s contest, NC State will continue its tour through Southern Conference opponents, beginning with Elon at 3 p.m., Sunday, before meeting Appalachian State next Friday, Sept. 7 at 7 p.m. Both matches will be played at the Dail Soccer Field.
