Dec. 17, 2013
RALEIGH, N.C. – Alexa Allen, a recent transfer to the NC State women’s soccer program from Auburn University, has been selected by the Jamaica Football Federation to participate in the CONCACAF U20 Tournament with the Jamaican National Team.
Prior to the tournament, Allen will participate in two team camps with the Reggae Girlz. The first of which will be from Dec. 18 – Jan 1 in Jamaica, while the second will take place between Jan. 2 – 6 in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.
These camps will serve as preparation for the national team’s U20 CONCACAF Championship to be held Jan. 9-19 in the Cayman Islands. The U20 CONCACAF Championship is an important step in qualifying for the 2014 U20 World Cup, which will take place in Canada. The top three nations at the end of the CONCACAF Championship will earn the region’s three bids to the 2014 U20 World Cup.
In Group A play, Allen and Jamaica will take on Guatemala (Jan. 9), the United States (Jan. 11), and Costa Rica (Jan. 13). In the Jan. 11 match against the United States, Allen will likely square off against future Wolfpack teammate Jackie Stengel, who was selected to train with the U.S. squad.
The NC State women’s soccer team enjoyed an improved 2013 season under new head coach Tim Santoro, going 7-12 overall. The Wolfpack went 5-1 in nonconference play and ended the season with a 2-1 win over No. 23 Wake Forest, the program’s first win over a ranked opponent since 2009.
