Softball Falls to St. Joseph's

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - NC State softball fell in its second contest in as many days to St. Joseph's (5-4) tonight in Chapel Hill, N.C. by a score of 5-3.
Morgan Peeler earned the start for NC State in the circle and went 2.1 innings, giving up four runs, two of which were earned, off of four hits.
St. Joseph's got on the board first in the game, scoring off of a two out base hit by Dana Bieniek in the opening inning.
Landon Warren put the Pack on top 2-1 in the second inning by belting a two-run homerun, her first of the season.
Toni Ann Williford led off the top of the third inning with a line drive base hit and advanced to third on an error by St. Joseph's third baseman on Alyssa Allbritten's sacrifice bunt. Bridget Desbois then stepped to the plate and notched a single, scoring Williford to give the Pack a 3-1 lead.
The Hawks posted four runs in the bottom of the third inning off of two Pack errors and a base hit to take a 5-3 lead over NC State.
Kayla Cox came on in relief of Peeler in the third, and was able to hold the Hawks to one hit and no runs in 3.2 innings of work.
Freshman Chelsea Hartsell, pinch hitting for the Pack, roped a base hit with two outs in the sixth inning and Warren followed with a single. Pinch hitter Bethaney Wells, however, was not able to deliver a hit for NC State, and the score remained 5-3.
The Pack returns to action tomorrow at 2 p.m., taking on Florida International in Chapel Hill, N.C in the final day of the Carolina Classic.
