KISSIMMEE, Fla. - NC State (9-8) earned its first victory of the Citrus Classic this afternoon by defeating St. John's (2-12) by a score of 9-0 at ESPN Wide World of Sports in Kissimmee, Fla.

Morgan Peeler earned her second shutout of the week in the contest. She surrendered only four hits and struck out four St. John's batters.

Toni Ann Williford went 2-for-4 and scored two runs in the contest, and Renada Davis posted a 2-for-3 performance with two RBI for the Pack at the plate.

"I am very proud of how our team responded in this game," said head coach Lisa Navas.  "We lost a tough game this morning to a good Purdue team, and our team showed a lot of fight to come back and win this one.  Renada is hitting the ball really well right now, and our defense, especially Landon Warren, is playing hard behind our pitchers."

Williford notched a double in the first inning and came around to score on the base hit by Bethaney Wellsto give the Pack a 1-0 lead.

The Wolfpack increased its lead in the second frame after Davis led off the inning with a hit and scored to give State a 2-0 lead.

Peeler issued two walks in the bottom of the second, but worked her way out of the jam to preserve the 2-0 Pack lead.

Wells extended the Wolfpack lead to 3-0 in the third, notching an RBI double that plated Williford. Davis continued her hot hitting in that frame, blasting a three-run home run, her third of the season. With the blast, the Pack extended its advantage to 5-0 over St. John's.

Liz Williamson entered the game in the fifth inning and posted her first career hit, a single. She was replaced on base by Kelsey Hoover, who later came around to score on a base hit by Warren. After five innings of play, the Pack held a 6-0 lead over the Red Storm.

The Red Storm loaded the bases in the bottom of the fifth, but Peeler was able to work out of the jam again thanks to Warren's second outstanding catch of the day, this time a diving stop in the left center gap.

Warren notched her second hit of the ballgame in the seventh inning, driving in Davis to give the Wolfpack a 7-0 lead. The Wolfpack extended that advantage to 9-0 later in the inning thanks to an RBI single by Scout Albertson.

Peeler retired St. John's hitters in the bottom of the seventh inning to preserve the shutout, her second of the week.

State softball returns to action tomorrow in the Citrus Classic at the ESPN Wide World of Sports to face Penn State at 2:30 p.m. and Hofstra at 4:45 p.m. in Kissimee, Fla.
