Wolfpack Rallies Past Virginia to Reach Championship of Buzz Classic

NC State advanced to the championship game of the Buzz Classic after overcoming a 6-1 deficit against Virginia in a 8-7 win. Tess Corona scored from third on an error by the catcher for the winning run in the bottom of the seventh, and Miranda Ervin hit two home runs and drove in four runs. Shaina Ervin (3-0) got the win after pitching four innings of relief and striking out six as NC State improved to 15-6. Virginia fell to 11-4.
NC State took an early lead on Miranda Ervin's first home run of the game to lead off the second inning. Dalthorp handled the Cavaliers into the third inning before getting in trouble by allowing four runs in the fourth and two more in the fifth.
Down 6-1 in the fourth, NC State rallied to tie the score at six a piece with runs in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings.
Shaina Ervin drew a bases loaded walk with two outs in the sixth to tie the score, but the seesaw game would continue into the seventh.
Shaina Ervin allowed a run in the top of the seventh to give Virginia a lead, but it would be short lived.
The Pack loaded the bases in the bottom half of the inning off of reliever Erin Horn (3-2) to bring up Abbie Sims. Sims struckout, but the Cavaliers' catcher Amy McKean tried to pick Corona off of third and threw the ball away for the winning run and a berth in the championship game.
NC State will play Georgia Tech in the championship game at 2:00 p.m.
