Wolfpack Wins USF adidas Invitational Silver Bracket

Megan Dalthorp (6-2) pitched a four-hit shutout as NC State (22-10) defeated Purdue (13-14) in the Silver Bracket championship of the USF adidas Invitational. Lisa Nentwig went 3-for-3 with a RBI single to pace the offense. Dalthorp struck out three and walked none while allowing just the four hits for her first shutout of the season.
"I'm very proud of the kids and its nice to see we are playing well now," head coach Lisa Navas said. "We finally put it all together on championship Sunday and came away with a trophy."
Purdue threatened in the second inning after a leadoff single, stolen base and groundout moved the runner to third with two outs. Dalthorp struckout Purdue's Tiffany Krcelich to end the inning.
NC State scored the game's first run in the third with two outs. Chamberlin hit a chopper to short and reached on a fielding error and moved to second on the play. Patterson hit a sharp single through the right side, and the ball rolled off the glove of Purdue's rightfielder, DaQueta Johnson, to allow Chamberlin to score for a 1-0 lead.
An insurance run was put on the board in the bottom half of the sixth. Patterson reached on an error and Beth Poore came in to run. Sims reached on an infield single and Miranda Ervin pinch hit for Dalthorp. Ervin reached on a single and moved to third with Poore out on the play at home. Nentwig followed with a RBI single through the right side for a 2-0 lead.
NC State opens ACC play next weekend with a three-game series against
