LEXINGTON, Ky. - NC State softball moved to 2-0 against SEC teams in the 2012 season today by defeating Kentucky 6-3 at the University of Kentucky Tournament.

Weiman retired the Wildcats in order in the bottom half of the frame, and after one inning of play, the game remained scoreless.
Scout Albertson knocked a base hit to open the second and moved to second on a Kentucky error. Katie Mansilla then laid down a perfect sacrifice bunt to move Albertson to third for Chelsea Tate, who grounded out to end the frame.
Toni Ann Williford and Davis hit screaming liners in consecutive innings that were caught by the Kentucky defense on great plays.
Bethaney Wells notched a single with one out in the fourth inning and Leah Jones drew a walk to put runners on first and second. The next two Pack batters, though, were unable to push the run across and heading in to the bottom of the frame, the contest remained scoreless.
Kentucky's Ginny Carroll knocked a three-run homer run with two outs in the fourth inning to give the Wildcats a 3-0 lead over the Wolfpack.
Davis led off the sixth with a double in the gap, her second hit of the contest, but was caught stealing during Wells' at-bat. The next two batters struck out, and the Pack still trailed 3-0 going into the bottom of the sixth.
Mansilla opened the seventh with a base hit, then Kirsty Grant followed with a double to put runners at second and third for pinch hitter Sara Lippard. She then notched a single to plate Mansilla and put the Pack on the board at 3-1. Williford stepped to the plate next with two runners in scoring position and no outs. She, too, put the ball in play, reaching base and scoring Grant to pull the Pack within one, 3-2. Warren kept the rally going, crushing a double to score two more runs and give the Pack its first lead of the game, 4-3.
During the comeback, the Wolfpack posted four hits and scored four runs before the Wildcats were able to record an out. In the inning, State scored six runs off of five hits and two UK errors to take a 6-3 lead heading into the bottom of the seventh.
Weiman allowed two hits in the bottom of the seventh, but she worked out of the jam to preserve the victory.
