    Feb. 5, 2013

RALEIGH, N.C. -- NC State's 2013 softball season begins on Friday at the Florida International Panther Invitational in Miami, with a new excitement as the fast-pitch program enters its 10th season, now under the guidance of first-year head coach Shawn Rychcik.

The squad returns three seniors - Caitlin Dent, Katie Mansilla and Bethaney Wells - as well as 2012 ACC Rookie of the Year Renada Davis, a shortstop who set a school record last season with a .362 batting average and a .450 on-base percentage.

Heading into opening day, All-Access has video conversations with all three seniors, beginning with outfielder Bethaney Wells of Harrisburg, N.C. Wells, with 11 homers in 2012, has led the Wolfpack in home runs in each of the last two seasons and has a total of 22 in her career.

She also had a team-best 39 RBIs last season, which ranked fifth among all hitters in the ACC, and was ranked fourth in the league with a .567 slugging percentage and 10th with 85 total bases.

She also matched Davis with a seven-game hitting streak, for the longest by a Wolfpack player last season.
