Getting to Know: Senior Caitlin Dent
Feb. 7, 2013
RALEIGH, N.C. -- NC State's 2013 softball season begins on Friday at the Florida International Panther Invitational in Miami, with a new excitement as the fast-pitch program enters its 10th season, now under the guidance of first-year head coach Shawn Rychcik. The squad returns three seniors - Caitlin Dent, Katie Mansilla and Bethaney Wells - as well as 2012 ACC Rookie of the Year Renada Davis, a shortstop who set a school record last season with a .362 batting average and a .450 on-base percentage.
Heading into opening day, GoPack.com All-Access has video conversations with all three seniors, today featuring centerfielder Dent, who is entering her third year as a starting outfielder for the Wolfpack. Last year, Dent hit four home runs and had 16 RBIs and led the Wolfpack with 34 walks, upping her on-base percentage to .376. She has a career total of seven home runs and 41 RBIs. Dent grew up in a baseball family, learning from her father, New York Yankees hero Bucky Dent, and playing side-by-side with twin brother Cody, who is a senior at Florida. She attended her father’s hitting school in Florida, and hung out in clubhouses of the major league teams he coached. Her sights this season are set on a big senior season and advancing to the NCAA Regionals for the first time in her career. |
