Davis Tabbed ACC Player of the Week
March 3, 2014
GREENSBORO, N.C. – Renada Davis of the NC State softball team has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) Player of the Week, announced Monday by the conference office. The junior shortstop helped the Wolfpack to a 4-0 record during the week, including a series sweep against Virginia.
A native of Tomball, Texas, Davis collected six hits in 13 plate appearances during the week to compile a batting average of .462. She also hit three home runs, scored five runs and collected seven runs batted in (RBI).
Against St. Bonaventure, the junior was 3-for-4 at the plate with two home runs and four RBI to propel the Wolfpack to a 15-0 win. Davis homered in consecutive plate appearances, hitting a solo shot in the second inning and a two-run blast in the fourth inning.
Davis wasted little time putting the Pack ahead in the first game of the doubleheader against Virginia, as she crushed the second pitch of the game over the center field fence for a solo home run. She singled later in the contest to finish the game 2-for-4.
In the second game of the UVa series, Davis extended her hit streak to seven games with a 1-for-3 outing, highlighted by a double to deep left center. She was 0-for-2 in the third game of the series to snap her hitting streak at seven, but she did drive in a run.
Defensively, Davis had 11 assists in the field and recorded three putouts.
The award is the second such honor of her career, as she was first named ACC Player of the Week on April 30, 2013.
Florida State’s Lacey Waldrop won the ACC Pitcher of the Week award.
NC State will return to action on Wednesday, March 5 when it hosts the USC Upstate Spartans, who received votes for the top-25 poll in the latest rankings released, in a doubleheader at Dail Stadium. First pitch is slated for 4 and 6 p.m.
