March 6, 2012
RALEIGH, N.C. - NC State freshman Renada Davis was named Atlantic Coast Conference Player of the Week this week, as voted on by members of the league office.
"It's great to see Renada being recognized for her outstanding performances this week," said head coach Lisa Navas. "She played very well all week, and we are really excited for her."
Davis hit .473 over the Pack's six games last week, helping lead the squad to a 4-2 record. She notched nine RBI on nine hits, including two home runs as the Pack hosted NC Central and participated in the Citrus Classic. In addition, she posted a .522 on base percentage and stole two bases for the Pack last week.
The Tomball, Texas, native had an impressive .842 slugging percentage and did not commit and error on defense in six games.
Davis came through in the clutch for the Pack in the Citrus Classic, knocking in the game-winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning versus Longwood on a ball that hit the top of the fence and narrowly missed becoming her third home run of the week. In addition, she had an outstanding offensive inning versus NC Central where she posted two hits and five RBI in one frame.
This is Davis' first Player of the Week honor at NC State, and the first for the Wolfpack since shortstop Shanna Smith was tabbed Player of the Week on April 14, 2008.
NC State softball returns to action tomorrow to take on the College of Charleston in a doubleheader beginning at 4 p.m. on Patriot's Point in Mount Pleasant, S.C.
