RALEIGH, N.C. NC State softball will open a three-game ACC set against No. 24 Virginia Tech with a doubleheader on Friday, March 21 at the Curtis & Jacqueline Dail Softball Stadium. State enters the meeting at 16-13 (2-1 ACC), having won seven of its last nine games. This past Monday pitcher Lindsay Campana (9-10, 2.20 ERA) was named conference pitcher of the week after tossing two complete game shutouts against Boston College over the weekend. Alyssa Allbritten, who lined a base hit into center last Sunday to knock off the Eagles in extras, leads the Wolfpack offense with a .313 clip at the plate and 17 RBIs. Allison Presnell (15 RBIs) and Shanna Smith (.310, 13 stolen bases) have also aided State in manufacturing runs.
The Hokies enter Raleigh at 20-9 (2-1 ACC), having taken two games from Georgia Tech last weekend in Atlanta, Ga. This past Tuesday VT downed No. 11 Houston (1-0) at home. All-everything hurler “The Animal” Angela Tincher (12-4, 0.52 ERA), 2007 ACC Pitcher of the Year, has allowed just nine earned runs on the season. She stands just 292 K’s away from becoming just the third pitcher in NCAA history to record 2,000 strikeouts. In the batter’s box, Charisse Mariconda carries a .368 average, while Jenna Rhodes is 21-of-22 in stolen base attempts.
The Pack leads the all-time series between the two programs, 7-4. VT took two of three games last year in Blacksburg, Va.
