Softball Off to UVa for Key ACC Series
RALEIGH, N.C. – The NC State softball team will square off against Virginia in a pivotal three-game ACC series this weekend, April 17-18, in Charlottesville, Va. Action will begin at 1 p.m. on both Saturday and Sunday.
NC State (24-19 / 7-5 ACC) is fourth in the league standings, just behind Virginia (23-17 / 7-4 ACC). The Cavaliers conference series with Maryland was shortened to just two games due to weather.
NC State returns to conference play after stepping outside of the ACC for a doubleheader with ECU this past Wednesday. Landon Warren’s .320 batting average, 41 hits, 25 runs scored and six doubles are all team highs, as is Stephanie Call’s 11 home runs, 28 RBIs and 73 total bases. Krystal Hawkins leads the offense with 13 stolen bases.
Lindsay Campana (16-7, 0.88 ERA, 159 IP, 208 K’s) remains one of the top pitchers in the conference. She allowed just six hits in a 1-0 eight-inning loss to ECU on Wednesday.
The Cavaliers have benefited greatly from Melanie Mitchell’s production in the circle this season. She carries a 19-13 record with a 3.02 ERA in 191 1/3 innings of action. Mitchell has fanned 219 batters thus far.
Sarah Tacke fronts the UVa offensive assault, hitting at a .390 clip with 41 hits, 33 RBIs and 73 total bases. Nicole Koren’s 10 homers are tops on the Virginia roster.
The Pack leads the all-time series between the two programs 11-9, having taken two of three last season.
