RALEIGH, N.C. – The NC State softball team will face the Notre Dame Fighting Irish for the first time in the history of the two programs and first as conference opponents on Tuesday at Melissa Cook Softball Stadium. First pitch of the doubleheader was originally slated for 3 p.m., but has been moved to a 2 p.m. start to better accommodate travel for the Wolfpack.

Both games will be streamed live on WatchND.tv.

In its last outing, the Wolfpack (29-13, 13-6 ACC) won the rubber match of a three-game set against Boston College to complete its home slate. The squad’s seniors were recognized at the contest as the Pack went on to defeat the Eagles, 6-1.

Sophomore Lana Van Dyken led State at the plate during last week’s games with a .462 batting average on six hits in 13 plate appearances. Chelsea Tate, a senior from Mission Viejo, Calif., also had a great week with a .429 batting average, highlighted by three home runs. She also drove in four runs and scored fours runs as well.

In last Wednesday’s doubleheader against UNCW, junior Emily Weiman threw her 11th complete game shutout of the season to emerge from a six-way tie as the national leader in the category. The Pasadena, Md. native matched her career high and set a season high with 12 strikeouts in the contest. Her 11 complete game shutouts ties as the most in a single season for a Wolfpack pitcher along with Abbie Sims, who accomplished the feat in 2007.

    SCOUTING NOTRE DAME
The Notre Dame Fighting Irish enter Tuesday’s twin bill with a 29-9 record on the year, including a 5-1 mark in home games. The Irish are listed at No. 21 in the National Fastpitch Coaches Association poll and No. 22 in the ESPN.Com/USA Softball poll.

In its last outing over the weekend, Notre Dame swept a three-game series in Charlottesville, Va., against the Virginia Cavaliers. In Atlantic Coast Conference play, the Irish is 9-4 and currently in third place just ahead of the Wolfpack.

Freshman Carley Wester leads the team at the plate with a .448 batting average, highlighted by a team-best 56 hits on the year. Junior Cassidy Whidden supplies the power on the squad with a team-leading 10 homer runs.

In the circle, senior Laura Winter paces the squad with an 18-4 record to go along with a 2.38 earned run average (ERA). She has appeared in 25 games this season making 20 starts and throwing 17 complete games.
