Softball's Weiman Wins 4th ACC Pitcher of Week Honors
April 23, 2013
GREENSBORO, N.C. – NC State softball’s sophomore pitcher Emily Weiman shared Atlantic Coast Conference Pitcher of the Week honors with Florida State sophomore Lacey Waldrop, the league announced on Tuesday.
Weiman (24-16) picked up all three wins in a series sweep over Virginia, allowing just one run and nine hits in three complete games. She has now won five consecutive decisions and 12 of her last 14 games for the Wolfpack (26-18-1 overall, 10-7 ACC).
A native of Pasadena, Md., Weiman had 20 strikeouts in the series, including nine in Sunday’s final game. In that contest, she allowed just two balls out of the infield, a single up the middle and a fly ball to centerfield to end the game. The sophomore now has six shutouts on the season and lowered her earned run average to 1.98, which ranks second in the conference.
Her 24 wins ranks second in the league this season and also second on NC State’s all-time single-season total, behind the mark of 27 wins by former ACC Pitcher of the Year Abbie Sims in 2007.
Waldrop pitched three complete-game victories against conference opponents last week. North Carolina freshman shortstop Kristen Brown was recognized as Player of the Week.
The Pack, coming off its three-game sweep of Virginia and its series win over North Carolina, returns to action on Wednesday when it travels to Elon and concludes the regular season this weekend with a three-game series at Boston College.
