May 1, 2014
RALEIGH, N.C. – Senior Kirsty Grant of the NC State softball team has been selected to the Capital One Academic All-District III First Team, announced Thursday by College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
The award recognizes student-athletes not only for their performance in the classroom, but also on the field. To qualify for the award, one must have a grade point average (GPA) of 3.3 or better and see significant action on the field.
The Oakville, Ontario, Canada native was one of just two student-athletes from the Atlantic Coast Conference to receive the honor, as Virginia’s Stephanie Harris was also selected to the district III team.
Grant has started 45 of the team’s 47 games this season for the Wolfpack and owns the team’s third-best batting average at .305. She has collected 36 hits, including seven doubles and three home runs. The senior is also 15-of-16 on stolen base attempts, highlighted by a school record three in the Pack’s win over Radford.
The NC State outfielder and catcher becomes the first Wolfpack softball player to receive first team honors, as Heather Gelbard also earned the honor in 2007 but was a second team selection.
Grant is a biological sciences major with a 3.86 GPA.
State returns to action on Saturday, May 3 when it concludes the regular season schedule with a doubleheader at Charlotte. First pitch is slated for 3 p.m. with the second game to follow.
