Davis, Weiman Claim All-ACC Softball Honors
May 8, 2014
GREENSBORO, N.C. – NC State pitcher Emily Weiman has been named an All-ACC First Team selection, while shortstop Renada Davis was tabbed All-ACC Second Team, announced Thursday by the conference office.
Davis garners her third All-ACC selection in as many years at NC State and Weiman collects her second consecutive first team selection.
Weiman has enjoyed an excellent junior campaign in which she has posted a record of 28-12 as the Pack’s top pitcher. Her 28 victories in the circle on the season are second in the conference and third in the nation. In addition to her win total, she has also compiled the fourth-best earned run average (ERA) in the conference at 2.36.
The Pasadena, Md., native leads the conference and is fourth in the NCAA with 11 complete game shutouts. She is also second in the ACC in strikeouts with 234 which ranks 18th nationally.
Earlier this season, Weiman threw her second career no-hitter in a 15-0 rout against St. Bonaventure. She collected seven strikeouts in the contest and only allowed two walks. She matched her career best with 12 strikeouts in a 5-0 home win versus UNCW.
Since stepping onto campus as a freshman, Davis has taken over the shortstop position and has produced three All-ACC seasons. She becomes only the third player in school history to garner All-ACC honors three consecutive years.
The Tomball, Texas, native has a team best .375 batting average, complemented by a team-leading 57 hits. Davis has blasted 17 home runs this season, which ranks second in the ACC and 10th in the NCAA.
For her career, Davis has 48 career homers and only needs one to tie Jen Chamberlin for the program record with 49.
The two have teamed up to lead the Wolfpack to a 34-15 record on the year and the fourth seed in the 2014 ACC Championship starting later today (Thursday, May 8) at 1:30 p.m. in College Park, Md. The game will be broadcast live on ESPN3 and Regional Sports Networks.
