    Softball Announces 2012 Schedule

    RALEIGH, N.C. - Head Coach Lisa Navas and the NC State softball staff announced the 2012 schedule today. The challenging slate features games against at least seven teams that appeared in the 2011 NCAA softball championship, including Super Regional participants Texas A&M, Kentucky and Georgia.

    The Wolfpack will kick off the 2012 season Feb. 10-12 in Athens, Ga., at the Red and Black Showcase. There, the squad will face the Georgia Bulldogs, who finished last season ranked No. 9 in both the USA Today/ NFCA final poll and the ESPN.com/USA Softball final poll. In addition, the Pack will play games against Utah State, St. John's, Campbell and Army in this first weekend of competition.

    NC State will play an additional four preseason tournaments in 2012, traveling to the Texas A&M tournament Feb. 17-19, hosting the Wolfpack Challenge Feb. 24-26, competing in the ESPN Wide World of Sports tournament March 2-4 and traveling to the University of Kentucky tournament March 16-18.

    In Atlantic Coast Conference play, the Pack will play host to Virginia Tech, Georgia Tech, Boston College and Maryland. Outside of ACC competition, NC State softball will play home games against North Carolina Central, East Carolina, Campbell and Elon.

    The Wolfpack will hit the road for key non-conference games this year, including trips to College of Charleston and Charlotte. In ACC competition, State will travel to Florida State, North Carolina and Virginia.

    Finally, the 2012 ACC Softball Championships will be held in Chapel Hill, N.C. from May 10-12.

    The 2012 season begins Friday, Feb. 10 as the Pack takes on Utah State at 11 a.m. in Athens, Ga. Stay tuned to GoPack.com/softball for more information as the season quickly approaches.
