RALEIGH, N.C. - The NC State women's tennis team closed out the non-conference portion of its schedule with a 6-1 win over the Winthrop Eagles from the J.W. Isenhour Tennis Center on Thursday afternoon.

The Wolfpack improves to 7-3 on the year, while picking up its 11th consecutive victory from inside the friendly confines of the Isenhour Tennis Center.

"I was very pleased with today's result," NC State head coach Hans Olsen said. "It was important for us to show positive energy and play with great mental focus and we did a good job of doing that today."

Rachael James-Baker and Liza Fieldsend got the Pack off to a great start, winning 8-1 over Beth Williamson and Tijana Uzelac right out of the gate in No. 3 doubles.

From there, Joelle Kissell and Sophie Nelson secured the doubles point for State, winning five out of the last six points in their match to win, 8-5 over Ekin Gunaysu and Caitlin Cridland. Elisha Hande and Nicole Martinez fell to the doubles pair of Alice Garcia and Andressa Garcia, 8-6, from the No. 1 doubles spot.

In singles play, Kissell moved one win closer to the all-time NC State career record of 60 with her 6-2, 6-1 victory over Alice Garcia. The senior from Hostetter, Pa. is now just five dual singles victories away from breaking Jenny Sell's all-time Wolfpack record that has stood for the last 21 years.

James-Baker earned her team-high seventh singles win of the year, dispatching of Alice Garcia, 6-3, 6-3 while Martinez earned the match-clinching point for the Pack, taking a 6-4, 6-3 decision over Caitlin Cridland.

Hande made quick work of Beth Williamson, winning from No. 6 singles 6-0, 6-3 while Natalia Janowicz earned her third singles victory of the year with a 7-5, 6-2 win over Ekin Gunasyu. Liza Fieldsend dropped her match, 6-4, 4-6, 2-6 to Tijana Uzelac from the No. 4 singles position.

For its next match, the Wolfpack will host No. 17 Miami (Fla.) on Sunday, March 9. First serve from the Curtis & Jaqueline Dail Outdoor Tennis Stadium (weather permitting), is set for 11 a.m.
