No. 38 NC State Women's Tennis Upset by No. 40 San Diego State, 5-2

SAN DIEGO, CALIF. - The No. 38 NC State women's tennis team fell on Thursday, March 9, to No. 40 San Diego State, 5-2, in San Diego, Calif. The Pack took two doubles and one singles bout in the defeat. With the loss, NC State moves to 10-3 (0-2 ACC) on the season, while the Aztecs improve to 8-4 overall.
The Wolfpack collected the doubles point to begin play, winning at the second and third positions. Senior Nandita Chandrasekar and sophomore Elin Stahl Johansson collected their team-high eighth doubles win together, downing Eliska Krausova and Alesya Vidov at No. 2, 8-3. Sophomore Julia Roach and freshman Shona Lee sealed the doubles point with a win at No. 3, 8-3, over Esther Cadua and Milana Yusupov. Senior Barbara Orlay and freshman Alejandra Guerra, currently ranked No. 30 in doubles play, fell to Dita Hauerlandova and Sisse Nielsen at No. 1, 8-2.
Down a point in the beginning of singles, San Diego State stormed back, winning five of six singles contests, to collect the team decision. Hauerlandova beat Orlay, 6-3, 6-2, at No. 1, while Vidov topped Lee after dropping the first set, 2-6, 6-4, 7-5, at No. 2. Roach lost her first match of the season to Yusupov at No. 4 in a close bout, 7-5, 7-6, while Guerra fell to Krausova, 3-6, 7-5, 6-3. Barringer lost for only the second time this season at No. 6 to Nielsen, 6-4, 3-6, 7-5. Chandrasekar collected the Pack's lone singles win at No. 5, coming from behind to beat Cadua, 3-6, 6-4, 6-2.
NC State will return to the courts on Thursday, March 16, in a home contest against No. 14 Wake Forest. The Pack will take on the Demon Deacons at 2:30 p.m. on the NC State campus.
