No. 57 Wolfpack Comes Up Short Against No. 43 FSU

RALEIGH, N.C. - The No. 57 NC State women's tennis returned to action on Saturday with a 5-2 loss to the No. 43 Florida State Seminoles at the Curtis and Jacqueline Dail Outdoor Tennis Stadium.
Wolfpack senior Joelle Kissell defeated Florida State's Daneika Borthwick, 7-5, 6-2 in her singles match to notch her 56th all-time career singles victory. With the win, Kissell moves into a tie for second place with Julia Roach on the all-time list and is now just three victories away from tying Jenny Sell's record of 59 singles wins.
In other singles action, Elisha Hande won her match over Laurence Porry, 6-2, 6-4, from the No. 6 singles position to earn NC State's other point on the day. The Wolfpack lost a pair of down-to-the-wire, three-set matches at the No. 2 and No. 4 spots, as Rachael James-Baker fell to Kerrie Cartwright 7-5, 3-6, 3-6 on court two and Natalia Janowicz came up short against Daniela Schippers, 6-2, 2-6, 4-6 on court four.
In doubles play, Kissell and Sophie Nelson fell to the duo of Borthwick and Cartwright, 8-3, while Hande and Martinez dropped their match, 8-1 to Duda Santos and Majiena Pederson. James-Baker and Fieldsendf left their match unfinished at 6-4 against Vriens and Schleich after the Seminoles secured the doubles point.
The Wolfpack returns to the court tomorrow at 1:00 p.m. where it will host No. 59 Virginia Tech.
