Wolfpack Falls to Wake Forest

RALEIGH, N.C. – The NC State women’s tennis team dropped a 4-3 decision to ACC foe Wake Forest Friday afternoon at the Dail Outdoor Tennis Stadium. With the loss, State fell to 7-7 on the season.
Wake Forest opened the match by claiming the crucial doubles point with a win at the No. 2 and 3 positions. At the No. 3 spot in the order, Kimmy Guerin and Karen Forman of the Demon Deacons defeated Rachel James-Baker and Liza
Kissell claimed the first singles match of the afternoon, as she evened the score at 1-1. Her 6-1, 6-0 victory against Andrea Retolaza Andrade gives her 58 career singles victories, just two shy of the program’s all-time record.
At the No. 6 position of the order, Nelson moved her ledger to 4-2 overall with a 6-3, 6-2 victory against Zhang. Meanwhile, at the fourth position Hande dropped her match against Asch, 6-4, 6-0, as Wake knotted the score at 2-2.
Martinez dropped her match at the third position against Fernandez, 6-2, 6-4, while Gardiner clinched the match for Wake Forest with a 7-5, 6-2 win on court five.
After dropping the first set, 6-3, James-Baker battled back to force a decisive third set by winning the second, 6-0. James-Baker and Guerin played a 10-point tiebreak which the Wolfpack sophomore won to claim the match, 3-6, 6-0, 1-0 (10-6).
Up next, the Wolfpack will return to the courts on Sunday, March 30. First serve is set for noon.
