Women's Tennis Collects Four Wins on Second Day of Wilson/ITA Southeast Regional Championships

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - The NC State women's tennis team offered a solid performance on Friday, Oct. 14, on the second day of play at the Wilson/ITA Southeast Regional Championships in Chapel Hill, N.C. Competing in three singles and three doubles bouts, the Wolfpack netters collected four decisions, including all singles contests.
In singles action, senior Barbara Orlay, sophomore Julia Roach and freshman Alejandra Guerra each advanced in tournament play, as they all won their singles contests. Orlay downed Winthrop's Paula Takahasi in dominating fashion, 6-0, 6-1. Guerra grabbed a win of her own over Meg Fanjoy from hosting North Carolina in two sets, 6-4, 6-3. Roach upped another Tar Heel, besting Laura Reichert in stellar come-from-behind fashion, 3-6, 6-4, 6-2.
In doubles rounds, NC State squared off against North Carolina in two matches. Orlay and Guerra dismissed Reichert and Charlie Tansill, 8-5, while senior Nandita Chandrasekar and Roach fell to Fanjoy and Austin Smith, 8-0. Junior Agustina Arechavaleta and sophomore Elin Stahl Johansson were upped by Daniela Bercek and Jessi Robinson of Duke, 8-3.
Play will continue tomorrow morning on the third day of the Wilson/ITA Southeast Regional Championships.
