    CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - The NC State women's tennis team wrapped up a successful day of competition at the USTA/ITA Carolina Regional, winning a pair of matches at the Cone-Kenfield Tennis Center on Friday.

    The doubles duo of Elisha Hande and Nicole Martinez won their second straight doubles match of the tournament, defeating Katie Fosnacht and Natalie Looney of South Carolina, 8-2 to advance to the Round of 16 on Saturday. They will square off against the duo of Hayley Carter and Jamie Loeb of UNC.  

    In singles play, the No. 5 ranked Joelle Kissell defeated Brooke McAmis of College of Charleston, 6-1, 6-2 to advance to the Round of 32 where she will face Ximena Siles of South Carolina on Saturday.  

    In State's other matches, Kissell and Rachael James-Baker fell, 8-6 to the tourney's No. 4 ranked doubles duo of Ashley Dai and Tessa Lyons of UNC. Xue Zhang of Wake Forest defeated Hande in a hard-fought match, 6-7, 7-6, 6-4 while Kasey Gardiner, also of Wake Forest, defeated Martinez, 6-0, 6-1.

    The tourney's No. 2 seed, Hayley Carter of UNC defeated James-Baker, 6-2, 6-2 on Friday in the Wolfpack's other singles match.
