    CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - NC State women's tennis opened play at the ITA Regional Indoors in Chapel Hill, N.C. Thursday, picking up wins in the doubles main draw and singles qualifying.

    Three teams advanced to the Round of 16 for the Wolfpack: Bhambri/Nagaraj, Sipes/Miller, and Hojckova/Illova.

    In singles qualifying, Ashley Miller was the only NC State player in competition, and was eliminated in the Round of 16 after scoring a 6-3, 6-3 win over Gabi Vergara of Charlotte. Miller fell 6-3, 7-5 to Jessica Cook of East Carolina in the second round.

    Sanaa Bhambri and Sandhya Nagaraj won one match on the day to advance to the Round of 16. The pair defeated Arguello/Boyette of Furman 9-8 in the second round after a first round bye.

    Lenka Hojckova and Tana Illova, coming off of an A Doubles win at the Wolfpack's last event, moved on to the Round of 16 with a win over Sessoms/Stavreva of Elon 8-0 and a first round bye.

    Ashley Miller and Christy Sipes notched two victories to earn a Round of 16 berth, defeating Lunde/Oprea of George Washington 9-7 in the first round and Malvehy/Talbert of Wake Forest 8-6 in the seond.

    Joelle Kissell and Chloe Smith won their first match of the day 8-3 over Hutterli/White from George Washington before falling 9-7 to Fahoum/Nze of Duke.

    Friday at the ITA Regional Indoors will feature doubles matches in the morning before the Wolfpack takes to singles play in the afternoon. Matches begin at 9 a.m. with results posted Friday night at the conclusion of play on GoPack.com.
