No. 32 Women's Tennis Opens Season Sunday
The NC State women’s tennis time will open the season this Sunday, January 21, at the J.W. Isenhour Tennis Center. The Wolfpack squad is ranked No. 32 by the ITA rankings and will face Gardner-Webb at 9 a.m. and UNC-Wilmington at 4 p.m. The team will be led by the No. 43 player in the country in freshman sensation Daria Petrovic.
“We are excited to get our season started on Sunday,” Olsen said. “We have a talented squad and a great group of girls that can really build on last year, which was the best season in the history of this program.”
Petrovic posted a 10-4 mark in the fall, including wins against ranked opponents - No. 29 Alexandra Hirsch of Wake Forest and No. 79 Ashlee Davis of Wake Forest - and faced five players ranked nationally by the ITA. The second match of her career was a close loss to No. 12 Blakeley Griffith of Tennessee, but she went on to go 9-3 the rest of the fall.
Berkeley Brock posted a team best 13-3 record in singles for the fall, posting a 12 game win streak as she made an impact in her first year on campus. Brock also" /> posted a 7-4 mark in doubles in the fall.
Neils Barringer (11-6) and Kristen Bleakley (11-3) tied for second on the team in singles wins, while Julia Roach (8-5) and Alejandra Guerra (7-5) also had strong fall seasons.
A trio of seniors will compete in its last foray for the Wolfpack as Agustina Arechavaleta, Allison Barry and Lauren Barry are preparing for their last semester.
In addition, a pair of players will join the team in the spring semester, as Kate Green and Catherine Grotz will begin their collegiate careers this weekend.
