NC State Wins Opener Against Wofford in Women's Tennis
SPARTANBURG, S.C. (Feb. 9, 2001) -- NC State looked impressive in their opener as they defeated Wofford College 7-0 in women's tennis action today at the John E. Reeves Tennis Center in Spartanburg, S.C.
NC State swept through all of the singles matches against Wofford, led by junior Katrina Gildemeister at No. 1 with a 6-2, 6-3 win over Wofford’s Westinghunt. Junior Kristen Nicholls and freshman Jackie Leskovar each earned wins at No. 2 and No. 3, respectively. Freshman Jennifer Jassawalla defeated Erin Hantske 6-2, 6-1 at No. 4, while sophomore Loni Worsley defeated Candy Gore 6-0, 6-2 at No. 5. Freshman Amanda Devore defeated Mary Wallace Deberry, 7-5, 7-5 to round out the singles action. In doubles action, State once again swept past Wofford. At No. 1 Gildemeister/Leskovar defeated Deberry/Whisenhunt, 8-1, while Nicholls/Jassawalla defeated Martin/Gore at No. 2, 8-1. Worsley/Whitlock finished out the doubles for State at No. 3 with a 8-5 win over Banks/Hartske.
