No. 8 Clemson Defeats No. 45 Women's Tennis
RALEIGH, N.C. - No. 45 NC State hosted No. 8 Clemson on Saturday, April 7, at the J.W. Isenhour Tennis Center as the Tigers prevailed with a 5-2 win. Despite two Wolfpack (12-7, 3-5 ACC) wins over ranked opponents, the Tigers (16-3, 7-1 ACC) were able to overcome and fight back for the win. Alejandra Guerra and Daria Petrovic knocked off the nation's No. 9 doubles tandem in doubles, but Clemson won the other two bouts to win the doubles point for the early match lead.
Clemson would go up 2-0 as Federica van Adrichem downed the Wolfpack's Julia Roach at No. 4 in just Roach's fourth loss of the spring. Roach trailed 5-2 in the first set but battled back to 5-5 before falling in the opening set and eventually the match.
Berkeley Brock defeated her second ranked opponent in the last three matches as she downed No. 70 Estefania Balda at No. 2 singles. The win would pull the Wolfpack within 2-1 in the team score as Brock won the first set tiebreak easily, 7-1, before holding on with a win, 6-3, in the second frame.
No. 100 Petrovic would give No. 24 Mijacika all she could handle at the top spot. Petrovic led both sets late, 5-4, before a late rally in each gave Mijacika a 7-5, 7-5 triumph.
Guerra lost a tough three-set match to seal the win for Clemson, as she fell 3-6, 6-3, 6-3 to No. 78 Carolina Salge at No. 3 singles.
Neils Barringer lost at No. 6 singles to Ina Hadziselimovic, 6-0, 6-0.
Kate Green wrapped up play with a win at No. 5 singles with a 6-3, 7-5 showing. She is now 14-5 overall and an impressive 8-1 at No. 5 singles.
The Wolfpack will return to action on Easter Sunday at Noon for a showdown with No. 6 Georgia Tech at the J.W. Isenhour Tennis Center.
