Kissell First Three-Time All-ACC Selection in Program History
April 23, 2014
GREENSBORO, N.C. – For the third straight season, NC State senior Joelle Kissell has been selected to the All-ACC Women’s Tennis Team as announced Wednesday by the conference office. With the award, Kissell becomes the first three-time All-ACC honoree in program history.
Last year, she became just the third player at NC State to earn back-to-back All-ACC honors, before earning this year’s precedent setting award. A native of Hostetter, Pa., Kissell set the new all-time NC State women's tennis dual singles record on April 18 with her 6-2, 6-4 win over Audrey Ann Blakely of Pittsburgh, highlighting a 6-1 victory for the Wolfpack over the Panthers.
Kissell's mark of 60 dual singles wins eclipsed Jenny Sell's mark of 59 for the most all-time in NC State women's tennis history. She would add to that mark on April 20 with a 7-6 (8-6), 0-6, 6-4 win over Alexandra Stanova of Maryland to bring her total to 61.
Kissell, a two-time NCAA Singles Championship selection and ACC All-Academic Team selection, also ranks fourth all-time at State in career dual doubles victories with 44 and will go down as the winningest player in program history.
This season, Kissell owns a 14-18 overall mark and is 11-10 in dual singles matches – all of which have been played at the No. 1 spot in the lineup. She has also collected two wins against ranked opponents on the year.
