RALEIGH, N.C. - The NC State women's tennis team will open play in the ACC Women's Tennis Championship this Thursday, April 25, when it takes on ninth-seeded Boston College at 9 a.m. at the Cary (N.C.) Tennis Park.
The winner will advance to Friday's second round and face top-seeded North Carolina (24-2, 10-1 ACC) at 9 a.m.
The All-Time Series
NC State (13-8, 4-7 ACC) owns a 9-3 lead in the all-time series against Boston College (9-9, 3-7 ACC), and has won nine of the last 10 meetings between the two. The Pack defeated the Eagles, 5-2, in their April 13 matchup in Raleigh.
First Round Rematch
NC State and Boston College have met in the first round in each of the last three ACC Championships. Last year, the Wolfpack pulled out a thrilling 4-3 victory over the Eagles in a match that came down to the final singles match, where Joelle Kissell pulled out a three-set victory over Erin Kikuchi at No. 1 singles.

In the Polls
According to the latest ITA national team rankings, NC State is ranked No. 47, while Boston College is listed at No. 71. The Wolfpack has two ranked singles players in No. 49 Joelle Kissell and No. 80 Tatiana Illova, while the Eagles have a ranked doubles team comprised of No. 79 Jesssica Wacnik and Alex Kelleher.
Wolfpack Feeds Off Doubles
NC State is 13-1 this season when it wins the doubles point in dual-match play. The Pack wins nearly two-thirds of its doubles matches with a .649 winning percentage in dual matches and is led by the sophomore duo of Elisha Hande and Nicole Martinez, who are 13-4 at the No. 2 spot in the lineup and have won four in a row.
Veteran Leadership in Singles
The three upperclassmen in the Wolfpack's regular singles lineup own a 42-16 (.724) combined record in dual singles matches this season. Kissell, a junior, and senior Chloe Smith are both 14-5, while Illova, who is also a senior, is 14-6 on the year.
Re-Writing The Record Books
With her 6-3, 6-3 win over Georgia Tech's 86th-ranked Elizabeth Kilborn on April 21, junior Joelle Kissell won her 49th-career spring singles match and passed Blair Sutton (1995-98) for third on the program's all-time list.
Senior Tatiana Illova's 6-4, 6-2 upset win over Clemson's 27th-ranked on April 20 was the 42nd of her career, and passed Marissa Gildemeister for eighth on the school's list for spring singles wins.
