Barringer, Petrovic Advance at St. Mary's Classic
With the official start of the season underway, the Wolfpack women’s tennis team had a strong opening day as freshman Daria Petrovic and sophomore Neils Barringer both advanced in the winner’s bracket, while the doubles tandem of Barringer and freshman Kristin Bleakley advanced as well. The tournament continues through Sunday in Knoxville, Tenn.
Petrovic got her career stated off on the right foot, winning a tough three-setter over Alex Hirsch of Wake Forest. Petrovic won the opening set 6-4, then fell in a second set tiebreak, 6-7 (4). Petrovic rebounded in a big way, closing out the match with a 6-2 win in singles flight one.
Barringer won in singles flight four, taking down Connor Vogel of host Tennessee in straight sets, 6-3, 6-4.
In the third doubles flight, Bleakley and Barringer won easily to advance, knocking off Boeker and Reys of Purdue, 8-2.
