W. Tennis Perfect After First Day
NC State women's tennis enjoyed a perfect opening day hosting the Residence Inn North Wolfpack Invitational as it went 3-0 in singles. NC State also received a bye in doubles and play will resume at 9 am on Saturday at the J.W. Isenhour Center.
"The team got off to a good start and everyone is very focused on their individual performance goals," Head coach Hans Olsen said. "We are looking forward to our matches the rest of the weekend."
Catherine Grotz wasted little time in dispatching Briana Jain of James Madison in straight sets, 6-0, 6-2 in Singles Flight A2.
Neils Barringer downed Monika Lyskana of West Virginia in straight sets, despite going to a second set tiebreaker. Barringer swept the tiebreak, however, 7-0, to take the match, 6-2, 7-6 (0).
Kristen Bleakley won a marathon match in three sets, and save eight match points in the process. Bleakley lost the first set off Rebecca Erickson of James Madison, 7-5, before winning 6-3. The third set saw Bleakley down 5-3 and 40-0 on Erickson's serve, but Bleakley survived and won the tiebreak, 7-2.
