Kissell Travels to Riviera/ITA All-Americans
Oct. 3, 2012 RALEIGH, N.C. - NC State junior Joelle Kissell will travel to Pacific Palisades, Calif., on Thursday where she will compete in the first round of main draw competition at the 2012 Riviera/ITA Women's All-American Championships. Kissell's first round opponent will be a familiar face in South Florida's Ecaterina Vasenina, the nation's 29th ranked player, whom she defeated, 6-4, 6-2, back on Sept. 23 at the Southern Shootout in Atlanta, Ga. The tournament, widely regarded as one of the most prestigious tournaments in collegiate tennis, features a majority of the nation's top NCAA Division I women's tennis players. Ranked 19th in the ITA's preseason singles rankings, Kissell received an automatic bid into the main draw of the tournament. The Hostetter, Pa., native went 26-13 on the 2011-12 season, and became the second player in program history to reach the second round of the NCAA Singles Championship last year.
