Women's Tennis Begins Play at Kitty Invitational
Chapel Hill, N.C. - Members of the NC State women's tennis team took the court on Friday, Nov. 6.
In singles competition the Wolfpack competed against the University of Florida, TCU and Minnesota. Berkeley Brock defeated Katariina Tuohimaa of TCU, 6-3, 6-1. Lenka Hojckova beat Maria Babanova of TCU, 6-3, 6-3.
Sandhya Nagaraj won in three sets against Kayla Duncan of TCU, 6-2, 3-6, 10-6. Tana Illova was beaten, 7-5, 7-6(5), by Idunn Hertzberg.
Nagaraj won her match over Claire Bartlett of Florida, 6-2, 6-2. Brock fell to Lauren Embree of Florida, 6-1, 6-1.
Hojckova was defeated by Joanna Mather of Florida, 6-1, 6-1. Daria Petrovic saw her first action, losing to Brittany Borsanyi of Florida, 6-2, 6-1.
Against Minnesota, Petrovic beat Sperling, 6-2, 6-2. Chloe Smith won her match over Spilca, 6-0, 6-4. Following that she defeated Forsyth, 7-5, 6-0. Ashley Miller lost to Forsyth, 7-5, 6-4, then went on to beat Spilca, 6-1, 6-2. Illova took care of Muravnik, 6-1, 6-3.
In doubles competition the Pack played against Geogia Tech. Brock and Nagaraj teamed up against Elizabeth Kilborn and Sasha Kuprina losing a close match, 8-6. Petrovic played with Smith against Lynn Blau and Hillary Davis, falling short 8-3.
The Pack will take on members of North Carolina, Princeton and Virginia tomorrow.
