Wolfpack Volleyball Sweeps Kent State, 3-0
Sept. 1, 2012
RALEIGH, N.C. - NC State's volleyball team took care of business early on Saturday, with its second home victory of the season.
The Wolfpack (5-0), behind the strong play of sophomores Dariyan Hopper and Alesha Wilson, cruised to 3-0 victory over Kent State in its first of two matches on Saturday in the Courtyard Midtown Classic.
The Pack plays Virginia Commonwealth Saturday at 7 p.m. in the final match of the two-day tournament. Earlier on Saturday, South Florida defeated VCU, 3-0.
"We spread the ball around a lot today, which was what we were looking forward," said third-year head coach Bryan Bunn. "I thought Dariyan and Alesha played very well."
Hopper, an outside hitter who was a member of the All-ACC Freshman team last season, had 10 kills on .381 hitting for the Wolfpack, with only two errors in her 21 attacks. Wilson came off the bench to record nine kills, with two errors on 15 attacks for a .467 hitting average.
As a team, the Pack hit a season-high .337.
"Megan is a fifth-year senior setter, so she is comfortable running the team," Bunn said. "And they are comfortable playing with her."
The five straight wins to start the season matches 2010 for the Pack's best start since 1995, when NC State opened with seven consecutive victories.
The Pack is now 11-0 in tournament matches played at Reynolds Coliseum under third-year head coach Bryan Bunn and 27-3 overall in all tournament matches in his tenure.
